Can Walking 30 min a day reduces your risk of Colon Cancer?

Many of our posts share valuable information on the health benefits of walking, such as a stronger heart, easier breathing and leaner body.  In a 2011 study by the American Cancer Society, the lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is approximately one in twenty in both men and women. For twenty three years, data has been collected from approximately 150,000 people.  The recovered data showed that those that walked on a regular basis had a lower risk of colon cancer than those that did not routinely walk.  It is important to notice that walking every day for one month will greatly reduce your risk, but if it becomes a habit that is part of your life for an estimated ten years, you will have an even greater decrease in colon cancer risk.

Many people are concerned with how far they need to walk in order to feel the effects of walking when in fact research has shown that the duration is more important.  Whether you walk 20 miles or 15 as long as you focus on how long you are walking you will benefit from walking.  Aim for thirty minutes a day whether it is all at once or broken into chunks throughout the day.
